Old Town Hall

Chapter 1/10 · Candás

Welcome to Candás, a fishing town and the capital of the municipality of Carreño! We start in the Plaza de La Baragaña, in front of the old Town Hall, whose ground floor houses the Tourist Office. This is a circular walk on foot: we will come back to this very spot.

The building went up around 1955 and was the town hall until the 1990s, when the council moved to the restored Casa Genarín. Candás grew up around its harbour: its fishing is recorded as early as the 13th century, and whales were among its most common catches.

We climb the steps up to the Church of San Félix, at the top of the town.
