Harbour and the Cubes of Memory

Chapter 1/7 · Llanes

Welcome to Llanes, a coastal town in Asturias! We start at the harbour, which still has some fishing activity. In front of you are the Cubes of Memory, a work by the Basque painter Agustín Ibarrola: the concrete blocks of the breakwater, painted in bright colours.

The first phase, on the south face of the breakwater, was painted between July and October 2001, and the second, on the north face, was finished in 2003. Today they are one of the best-known symbols of Llanes.

We will make a circular walk through the old town and along the coast, and come back here. When you are ready, we go into the town.
