Kiss Bridge and Severo Ochoa’s birthplace
Chapter 7/8 · Luarca
This is the Kiss Bridge. The legend of Cambaral says the heads of the two lovers fell into the harbour waters, just where the bridge was raised years later. Again: it is a legend. The real story is that the first Kiss Bridge was built in 1870 by public subscription, and around 1900 it was replaced by a stone one with four piers.
And very close, in a 19th-century brick building next to Carmen and Severo Ochoa square, Severo Ochoa was born on the 24th of September 1905, Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1959.
We return to Alfonso X square.
