Casa del Busto

Chapter 4/9 · Pravia

This is the Casa del Busto, with its chapel, one of the oldest buildings in town. It was founded by Álvaro del Busto in the second half of the 16th century and rebuilt at the end of the 18th. Today it is a hotel.

Jovellanos slept here. In 1792 he wrote in his diary that he crossed the Nalón by boat at Peñaullán, climbed up to the town on a new road and passed a fountain called La Fontana, with seats; and then: arrival at the Busto house, a good supper and a good bed. That fountain, from 1781 and with a plaque dedicated to King Charles III, still stands in the La Fontana quarter, very close by, although building works moved it a few dozen metres.

Now we enter the streets of the old town, as far as the Plaza de las Madreñas.
