Candás Harbour
Chapter 7/10 · Candás
We are at the harbour of Candás, where the town began. In the 18th century it was so important that the prices at its fish auctions were a reference for many northern ports.
Beside the dock stands La Marinera, a statue by Antón dedicated to the fishermen's wives, who never knew whether they would see their men again. At low tide the dock used to become an improvised bullring; the last seaside bullfight was in 1994. And in the area called La Pregona rises the Peña Furada, a rock shaped like a high-heeled shoe and a symbol of Candás.
We leave the sea and cross the town along Calle Braulio Busto to the Maestro Antuña park.
