Candás Lighthouse

Chapter 6/10 · Candás

This is the Candás lighthouse, also called San Antonio lighthouse, on the Punta del Cuerno. It has guided ships from here since 1917; before that, from 1904, the light stood on the Peña de los Ángeles, where there was no room for the keeper's house.

It has two floors and a truncated-pyramid tower, almost on the edge of the cliff. The light is 40 metres above the sea and reaches 15 nautical miles. Next to it is a small picnic area: a good place to stop and look out over the Cantabrian Sea.

Now we go down the lighthouse road to the harbour.
