Basilica of Santa María del Conceyu
Chapter 5/7 · Llanes
This is the basilica of Santa María del Conceyu, one of the few examples of Gothic in Asturias. Works began in 1240 and continued into the 14th and 15th centuries. It was declared a basilica on the 25th of April 1973.
It has three naves, two deeply splayed Romanesque doorways, a large Plateresque altarpiece and the funerary chapel of Juan Pariente, from the 14th century. The patron of Llanes is Our Lady of the Conceyu, celebrated on the 15th of August.
Behind the basilica, the sea awaits.
