Llanes Tower and town wall
Chapter 4/7 · Llanes
This is the Llanes tower, a round limestone tower from the 13th century, part of the medieval wall. It served as a defence and later as a prison, and in 1876 it was declared a National Monument. The tourist office is no longer here: since 2013 it has been in the former Fish Market.
The wall began to be built in the 13th century and was rebuilt several times, for example after the siege by the Count of Luna in 1466 and 1471.
A few metres away, the basilica.
