San Francisco Park (Campo de San Francisco)

Welcome to Oviedo, the capital of Asturias! We start this walk in the Campo de San Francisco, one of the largest urban parks in Asturias, right in the city centre. It grew out of the gardens of the old Franciscan convent, and in 1534 the city and the cathedral chapter agreed to turn all this land into a public space.
Today it has a pond, tree-lined paths and several monuments, including the statue of Mafalda. We will walk a loop around the old town and come back here.
When you are ready, we leave the park. A few steps away, a very famous visitor in bronze is waiting.
