Back to Town Hall Square
Chapter 12/12 · Villaviciosa
We are back in the Town Hall Square, where the walk began. Villaviciosa owes a great deal to the apple: the company Valle, Ballina y Fernández, maker of El Gaitero cider, «famous all over the world», was founded here in 1890, and the municipality is full of apple orchards and cider houses. Do not leave without trying a cider.
If you have time, the municipality holds much more: the Villaviciosa estuary, the largest in Asturias and a nature reserve full of birds; the port of Tazones, where Charles I landed in 1517; and Valdediós, with the pre-Romanesque church of San Salvador, from the 9th century, known as El Conventín. Thank you for walking with us through the apple capital!
