Chapel of Our Lady of Guía (Mount Corberu)
Chapter 3/8 · Ribadesella
We climb Mount Corberu, the headland that protects the town from the Cantabrian swells. At the top is the chapel of the Virgin of Guía, patron saint of sailors, from the 16th century, built by the guild of mariners and rebuilt in 1892 after a cliff collapse.
In that century the chapel precinct was fortified to defend the harbour. From here you can see the whole town, the estuary full of boats, Santa Marina beach and the cliff coast to the east.
Now we go down towards the old town.
