Back to La Campa Square
Chapter 9/9 · Salas
We are back in La Campa square, where the walk began. At the Tourist Office they can tell you more about the municipality, such as the monastery of San Salvador de Cornellana, founded in 1024 by the Infanta Cristina, or the sanctuary of the Virgin of El Viso, about three and a half kilometres away, with views over the town; its pilgrimage festival is held on 15 August.
And before you go, try the Carajitos del Profesor, hazelnut biscuits that are a symbol of Salas. They were born in the Casa del Profesor, a café for social gatherings founded in 1918. The name comes from a customer who jokingly asked for one of those carajos, and from the owner's father, the conductor of the town band, whom everyone called the Professor. Thank you for walking with us through the gateway to the west!
